On-site research Sera de Tramuntana.
ETAM team with the support of the Departament De Medi Ambient Consell de Mallorca visited Serra de Tramuntana mountain range (Mallorca, Spain) on the 19th October.
ETAM experts had the opportunity to discover two areas on the Serra de Tramuntana (UNESCO’s Worldwide Heritage Site within the Category of Natural Landscape): the coastal side of the territory which surrounds one of the most emblematic peaks on the Serra, The Galatzó mountain (1,027 m); the valleys of Sóller and Fornalutx villages, in the area which surrounds the highest mountain in the Serra (Puig Major mountain, 1,436 m).
The potential of the heritage of the Serra as a tool of local development was analyzed and also the undergoing actions of the Environment Department of Consell de Mallorca is performing concerning the conservation of natural and ethnological heritage of the Serra, mainly focused in the recovery of the dry stone trade and building technique which will ensure the conservation of cultural landscape and the creation of hiking routes for the revitalization of the region.
